The Law Enforcement Officer in today's world has a variety of tools that they can now utilize before having to resort to deadly force. One of the most promising is the Electronic Control Device. The Electronic Control Device (ECD) is more commonly known by the public as the TASER and/or the STUN GUN and are very good tools for Law Enforcement to utilize before having to escalate to the use of Deadly Force. However, if the Electronic Control Device is used incorrectly by someone poorly trained or purposely used by an officer in order to punish an individual, then there can be allegations of excessive force and/or civil rights violations brought against the Law Enforcement Officers involved.
Just like the hammer used by the carpenter or the scalpel used by the doctor, a TASER or a STUN GUN when used as designed can prove to be of benefit to people and actually save lives. Both the TASER and the STUN GUN are designed to be non lethal weapons in the arsenal of Law Enforcement. However, when improperly applied either by mistake, or purposely, these tools can inflict serious damage to the human body. Additionally, studies have shown that when the police deploy their electronic control devices, it is impossible for the person hit with the ECD load to do as they are instructed by police
